Administration Department

About

The Administration Department is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Agency, providing oversight and support to all other departments. Administration works closely with the Board of Directors and Legal Counsel, and ensures that policy decisions enacted by the Board are carried out by the staff, and that Strategic Goals of the Agency are implemented. Administration also serves as the focal point in coordinating with outside stakeholders and other organizations that interact with the Agency.

About

The Engineering Department is responsible for engineering planning and operational studies, all aspects of engineering design, right-of-way acquisitions for all Agency projects, contract administration and construction management, field inspections of construction projects, preparation of grant applications and all phases of Agency capital projects.

Finance Department

About

The Finance Department is responsible for developing and implementing policies and ensuring compliance with those policies. Monitoring and reporting the finances of the Agency will be vital to ensuring long-term fiscal health. The Finance Department also plans for future resources required to fulfill the Agency’s mission.

Human Resources Department

About

This Department is responsible for all human resource and personnel functions for the Agency. This includes recruiting, hiring and retaining quality employees as well as administering employee benefits, classification and compensation, policies and procedures, employee relations, employee training, staff evaluations, labor law compliance and interacting with Agency legal counsel on personnel related issues. It also works with all Agency departments in meeting personnel, staffing, and related needs.

The Information Technology Department is responsible for the “technology” it takes to run the Agency, including (but not limited to)—computers, telephones, mobile communications devices, recording equipment for the boardroom and conference rooms.

Legislation & Conservation

About

The Mojave Water Agency tracks and engages state and federal legislation that affects our region. Actions include supporting or opposing legislation, testifying before committees, developing alliances with other water agencies and local regional partners, and providing materials for local groups to directly participate in the legislative process.  

This is a collaborative effort with MWA working with the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA), State Water Contractors (SWC), California Municipal Utilities Association (CMUA), state and federal elected officials, cities, the County of San Bernardino, large and small water utilities, and the Alliance for Water Awareness and Conservation (AWAC).

Operations and Maintenance Department

About

The Operations & Maintenance Department is responsible for all operations and maintenance pertaining to the pipeline and facilities owned by the Agency. It also performs a wide variety of duties relating to operating and maintaining the water systems including pump operations, instrument calibration, USA line locating, cleaning mains, and flushing the water system and conducting water quality sampling.

Public Information Department

About

The Public Information Department is responsible for all communications and public relations events for the Agency. The Department prepares the Agency’s newsletter, news releases, publications and brochures. We also: manage the Agency’s conservation programs, including the Water Conservation Incentive Program; provide leadership and support to the Alliance for Water Awareness and Conservation (AWAC); provide resources and tools for the public to reduce their water use; provide coordination between and collaboration efforts for the Strategic Partners Program; and, coordinate special conservation projects.

Watermaster Department

About

MWA was appointed as Watermaster in 1993 pursuant to the Court Judgment which adjudicated the rights to pump groundwater in the Mojave Basin Area. Watermaster’s main responsibilities are to monitor and verify water production for approximately 450 parties (1,700 wells), collect required assessments, conduct studies and prepare an annual report of its findings and activities to the Court. Watermaster also acts as the clearinghouse for recording water transfers, maintains records for all such transfers and reports changes in ownership of Base Annual Production rights to the Court.

Water Resources Department

The Water Resources Department is responsible for performing a wide variety of tasks in support of the Agency’s stewardship of groundwater basins and water resources in the region. The department’s mission is to collect data, understand common resources and present knowledge to facilitate science-based decision making. Available data defining the hydrologic state of the basin within the Mojave Water Agency boundary and the Mojave Basin area are detailed in the various pages and links contained within the Data and Maps site.
