Doug Shumway
Director, Division 7
Doug Shumway was elected to the Mojave Water Agency’s Board of Directors in his first bid for elected office in November 2008. He will represent Division 7 which encompasses portions of Apple Valley, Hesperia and surrounding unincorporated communities. This may be Doug’s first elected office, but he has long been involved in community affairs.
His current involvement includes serving as Chairman of the Board for Apple Valley Chamber of Commerce, Chair of the Victor Valley Museum Board, and Lucerne Valley Charter Academy School Board. He is also on the Technical Advisory Committee for the Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District.
He retired from full-time employment after 23-years with Mitsubishi Cement Corporation where he finished his career as the Mining, Environmental and Exploration Manager. He was hired as Mine Manager at the Cushenbury Plant in 1985. He has extensive experience in mine geology, planning and permitting, having worked in the mining industry since 1971 in Arizona, Idaho, Vermont, Georgia and California. He currently works as a consultant with TerraMins, Incorporated, a full-service geology, mining and environmental firm.
Doug acquired a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Geology from California State University Long Beach, and is a California Registered Environmental Assessor and Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP). He remains active in the Society of Mining Engineers and the Air and Waste Management Association.
Doug, who resides in Apple Valley is married with two children and two grandchildren. He likes to spend what little free time he has playing tennis and hiking. He is private pilot and member of the High Desert Pilots Association.
In addition to serving on the Agency’s Board of Directors, Doug serves on the Agency’s Legal, Legislative & Public Information Committee, and Planning, Resources and Technology Committee.
